Presenting the ICA – Laws Legal Institute

The ICA – Laws Legal Institute is at the forefront of legal development in the United States, as it works to further develop the study and practice of law by encouraging collaboration, mentorship, and multi-disciplinary research. Under the auspices of the Intercontinental Academia on Laws: Rigidity and Dynamics Legal Services, the ICA brings together a network of dynamic, early and mid-career legal scholars, leading academics, and top practitioners to advance the study and practice of law. The ICA seeks to produce the next generation of leaders in legal study, research, and practice by facilitating an original and highly sought-after scheme that develops transformational scholarship and national cooperation.
Mission Statement and Vision
At ICA – Laws Legal Institute we are dedicated to understanding the tension between limits and dynamism in US law. We will revolutionize legal research by bringing different legal cultures and professional communities together around the same goal – finding solutions to the most urgent legal problems through interdisciplinary experimentation. As a result, legal academics and other professionals will be able to effect lasting change in the field of law – bridging divides between legal disciplines and incorporating new ideas into the heart of legal research and practice.
Collaboration for Legal Practice, Development and Teaching
Working together is first and foremost. ICA – Laws Legal Institute offers an intellectually stimulating environment in which legal academics may engage with colleagues across the disciplines and practice areas in a supportive setting. ICA – Laws Legal Institute promotes structured programs and collaborative endeavors, along with continuous dialogue, to encourage attendees to question both existing paradigms and to pursue new solutions to challenging issues of law. Programs promote cross-pollination and facilitate exciting partnerships for legal researchers both within the legal community, but also outside the traditional formal boundaries of law with associated disciplines including politics, sociology, economics, and technology.
Mentorship from Eminent Legal Professionals
Participants in our programs receive direct mentorship from some of the top legal academics and practitioners in the U.S. They receive invaluable guidance in the areas of research, academic publishing, professional development, and leadership among the bar. These connections between emerging scholars and legal leaders ensure that knowledge, experience, and best practices are passed on cross-generationally to the benefit of the future of U.S. law.
Due to high demand from Black, Latinx, Native American, and other minority law students for semester-long legal writing fellowships, we will offer a Spring 2021 Writing Fellowship:
We are urgently looking to amplify the work of innovative Black, Latinx, Native American, and other underrepresented scholars in the legal academy. The Hollars Writing Fellowships for 2020-21 provide all expenses paid support for selected students to do research with faculty or undertake research-driven projects of their own. These fellowships aim to increase the number and quality of publications from non-white students while participants are still in school. Those selected as Hollars Writing Fellows will receive expert mentorship on their submissions, extensive editing assistance, personal support throughout the publishing process, and an AALS conference Fellowships Reception invitation. The fellowships are highly coveted!

National Presence, Local Support
Even though our network includes members from across the United States and the academic realm, ICA – Laws Legal Institute stays connected and engaged with local communities. We host events at leading academic institutions in major cities like Los Angeles and New York, uniting the legal community in these areas. This effort bridges regional perspectives and fosters a truly national dialogue on legal rigidity, dynamics, and reform. Our affiliation with universities and research institutions in the U.S. ensures that our work remains pertinent on both a national and community level.
Interdisciplinary Research: Breaking Legal Barriers
Legal research seldom if ever stands in isolation. At ICA – Laws Legal Institute we actively champion research which crosses disciplinary divides, fostering collaborations involving legal studies and law with technology, public policy, economics and other social sciences. This cross-fertilisation of ideas contributes to paradigm shifting knowledge and ensures our scholars are well-prepared for the theory-practice divide, an element that is increasingly necessary in countering the complex challenges confronting law today. The interdisciplinary research we advocate helps delegates to build a nuanced view of legal questions and their wider consequences.
